Premium Playground Surfacing System for All Climates with Built-In Drainage

Engineered Wood Fiber Playground Surfacing System 300 is a complete loose-fill playground surfacing system designed to improve drainage, durability, and long-term performance in commercial play environments. Unlike basic mulch or standard wood fiber installations, System 300 combines engineered wood fiber with additional system components to help manage water, reduce displacement, and maintain a safer, more consistent play surface.

This system is ideal for schools, public parks, daycare centers, HOA communities, and large recreational playgrounds that require a cost-effective surface with enhanced performance in varying weather conditions.

What Makes System 300 Different from Standard Wood Fiber?

System 300 goes beyond traditional loose-fill surfacing by incorporating a layered system approach. In addition to engineered wood fiber, this system can include geotextile fabric, drainage components, and wear protection features that help stabilize the surface and improve overall longevity.

Unlike standard mulch that can scatter, compact unevenly, or retain water, engineered wood fiber is specifically processed to interlock and knit together. This helps create a more stable surface that better supports accessibility and impact attenuation when properly maintained.

Advanced Drainage for All-Weather Playgrounds

One of the key advantages of System 300 is its ability to manage moisture and improve drainage. The integrated system design helps move water away from the surface, reducing puddling and allowing playgrounds to return to use more quickly after rain.

This makes System 300 a strong choice for areas with higher rainfall, poor natural drainage, or heavy playground usage where downtime needs to be minimized.

Designed for Safety and Accessibility

Engineered wood fiber systems are commonly used in commercial playgrounds because they provide reliable impact absorption when installed and maintained at proper depths. System 300 is designed to support accessibility when properly installed and maintained, helping create a more usable surface for a wide range of users.

Fall height protection depends on maintaining the correct depth throughout the play area. New installations are typically recommended at 12" to 15" deep in fall zones, with no less than 8" in active play areas and 6" in lower-use zones. Regular inspection and maintenance are required to maintain performance over time.

Installation and Depth Requirements

System 300 should be installed over a properly prepared sub-base with attention to grading and drainage conditions. Geotextile fabric and drainage components may be included to help separate the fiber from the sub-base and improve long-term performance.

Proper depth is critical to maintaining safety and performance. Playground borders are recommended to help contain the material and maintain consistent coverage throughout the play area. The installation site must also allow for proper water movement and accessibility routes.

The product is delivered in bulk and requires a minimum order of 40 yards. It typically ships within 5 to 7 business days, and the delivery truck will offload the material using a moving floor system. The delivery area must be accessible and able to support approximately 80,000 lbs, which is the average combined weight of the truck and material. Installation is not included.

Maintenance and Long-Term Performance

Engineered wood fiber surfacing requires routine maintenance to keep the surface level and within recommended depth ranges. Occasional raking helps redistribute material and maintain a consistent surface across the playground.

High-traffic areas such as under swings, slide exits, and around rotating equipment may require additional attention to prevent excessive wear. Periodic top-offs may also be needed over time to maintain proper depth and safety performance.

The fiber is made from mixed hardwood and does not contain pine or black walnut, which can help reduce the risk of certain material sensitivities.

System 300 vs Other Playground Surfacing Options

Compared to standard mulch, System 300 offers improved performance through engineered design and better drainage. Compared to rubber surfacing options, it provides a more budget-friendly solution for large playgrounds while still delivering reliable impact absorption when maintained properly.

For projects that require a balance between cost, performance, and coverage area, System 300 is a strong option for commercial playground surfacing.
